Photo: This is certainly a time when many of us are of ages where we fine tune things, if we're able . Let go of some precious things, and open ourselves to change, seeing that in the balance .
Our work suddenly shifts! Our bodies shift; and our priorities, and often, everything wisely becomes laced with pragmatism , hindsight and foresight.
Remember what engaged you, in your 20's, 30's, 40''s and 50's? All imbued with looking ahead, figuring things out- plans, hopes , dreams.
Then the realization that , as I like to remind myself, life is not a Disney movie. It really truly isn't ; which is something we all smash into. Bam.
That so much hard stuff happens. For long stretches. At times out entire beginnings. Then sprinkled, or crashed into us, now and again. Look around. No one , not ants or bears or trees or humans, are exempt.
Then there's the -if we're lucky enough to live long enough, it eventually gets quite tough.
For many of us, that's not now. Not yet.
No matter what small or huge things happen now, I remind myself that this? Is a walk in the park. With some pretty significant blips; that's for sure.
Some of us don't live very long at all.
If I'm here, now? No matter the challenge, still, it's not the season where I may wake up to discover myself older and unable to walk or care for myself. I am not fond of big surprises. Sweeping cut-off-at-the-knees changes. So I like to have an overview of myself in this thing called life- an X-marks-the-spot You Are Here. Just so I stay awake. Keep up. Remain oriented and aware and prepared .
So we may find ourselves, every day , celebrating what we can do.
And in wisdom , today, we do what we can do, with gratitude and delight.
