8.25.15 I pulled my arms round myself against the damp night chill coming up quickly

I went out last night , as evening fell, to gather Basil and Oregano and some Sage for dinner; possibly a few soft vibrant shallots , and a golden onion ,emerging from the rich dark earth .
And all about me for the first time all summer were the Swallows, maybe thirty of them. Tiny fluttering babies and so many adults , with their milky white under bellies and their dark hidden faces, those elegant pointed wings. As they clipped and swept through the air , feeding happily over head. So I stood there, knowing these delicious barefoot moments would not last .
Not knowing where they had been all summer, yet knowing they were here, now.

I pulled my arms round myself against the damp night chill coming up quickly from around the river down below, and stood , inhaling the night air, pulling deep into myself this moment, as they flew and played all about the skies .
