Here's
the deal, to me, about psychoactive Cannabis. (vs non- psychoactive, CBD
dominant, therefore non- getting- you/stoned ). If you're mature enough, not
real dissociative , and don't have an intergenerational vulnerability toward
addictions and self- medication , you may be able to handle THC dominant
psychoactive getting-stoned cannabis.
If you have pain or cancer , you may do your best to accept or appreciate the psychoactive aspects while preventing tumor growth or reducing terrible pain or treating other conditions .
Many with PTSD, trauma and other conditions are massively helped by ingestion of CBD dominant cannabis .
BUT for the rest of us. , being stoned while learning about life and having important experiences , difficult or no, prevents us from fully digesting and being present , and learning from them .
It has an inevitable dissociative impact that might be fine for some and really problematic for others .
So the whole " it's all good and what's the big problem anyway " being touted by pro cannabis advocates makes no sense to me.
Yet , after all these years of lies and government fostered misinformation , ( I once was a Drug Treatment Counselor for the government)
and politically driven prohibition that precluded access for many to an herb that at times is a vital treatment. ,
I think we need to cut our losses , get full access that does NOT involve private industry control but rather public freedom of control and access and ability to grow or buy or sell or whatever . Clean slate.
And THEN begin to look at what public health related information and supports we need to get in place.
After all , cigarettes and alcohol aren't perfect , but the legal model is comparable , and good enough.
I just tire of proponents for full legalization of cannabis feeling the necessity for pretending that, like cigarettes and alcohol , all use is peachy keen for all .
We don't restrict the populace from icecream, or many other things. That doesn't mean any old vulnerable person can't get addicted in some fashion.
Government restriction , with the exception of age restriction and consequences for irresponsible use , make the most sense.
Teaching young people the pros and cons of cannabis, alcohol and cigarette use makes sense .
