The Cloisters, NYC 1970
I remember as a teenager being brought to The Cloisters by our art teacher, all of us being completely elated just to be going on a predictably poorly chaperoned adventure to the city, but also having this keen sense that whatever we saw there was going to be somehow monumental . I have no idea how we ascertained that , but it proved true. As we walked through the stone hallways , to this day I remember the tapestries, blown away that there was a place on earth with so many exquisite ancient brilliant works of art. I suspect we all would have imploded had we any idea what we would learn existed the wide world over.
