It's so important to support ourselves showing
up in our lives, while we are who we are today. In weakness or strength , in
illness or health .
So often, the chronicity of a condition , or several, contributes to us slowly receding from our lives.
Not fully living, but rather postponing living.
Because we feel so much grief and loss , or great frustration and disappointment and anger. At finding ourselves in difficult, less-than-our-wishes circumstances.
Often enough, these are circumstances that make financially supporting ourselves and socially connecting with others a precarious , and sometimes frightening thing.
When our lives take a turn and ,between health and circumstance ,we are not as physically or financially able, and it happens sooner than we imagined, we can get caught up in resentfully being unable to figure out how to fully participate in t-h-I-s new version of our life.
We keep waiting for a magical return to what we want to be the normal.
As if not being capable of doing all we could ... necessitates not being fully present while this is so.
But there is another way. Of continuing to show up daily in our day, our lives.
It involves finding the courage this once, to sit and identify one feeling or one thought. To say to ourselves " Alright. Alright. That there is a thought."
And then sit with that hard thing for a bit, as it fills you , as it sometimes seems to threaten to overtake your very capacity for breath.
Because if you do, you will digest that poor stuck vestige of your life. It will be embraced and comforted and soothed, even as the very doing embraces and comforts and soothes you.
And surprise surprise, you will find after this embracing, after that mistaken withdrawal from self, settles and passes on by.
At no time , then, is the delineation of
'Oh... That is a thought" or " Wow. THAT really was an emotion. It wasn't 'my life' or 'me'.
clearer and more reassuring, than when these things settle and pass on by.
This is the rich full pleasure hidden in the midst of illness or pain or financial difficulty .
Because those factors can be very real.
But the seceding of our selves from our circumstances and precious lives need not be.
We can consciously help ourselves go ahead and feel how we feel about this present situation, and then live the day fully as such.
