4.21.16 Dark surrounded

There is nothing growing in the
flood plain oasis, beneath some
old growth trees, and older saplings.
It's situated in the middle of the farmers fields , the soil and leaves grey and lifeless, covered with many seasons of rich river silt , settled round the base of each tree.
It's dark in there, now that there are the tiniest mini leaflets sprouting from crooks all over the long extended branches.
The ground floor reveals so many leaves all the same color, only discernible by their delicate outlines.
This is a place where neighborhood animals come to get away, as evident from winter paw tracks ,and the skunk in bright daylight the other day, confidently making their way across the dirt road, on to the fields, and across them to the oasis stretch here.
Here, you are in the dark surrounded by sky and light. A small wooded enclave.
And in spring ? This place will be 15 feet under water.
