Deciding what season it
is, on your own, is like when you discover that, actually, you can celebrate a
birthday, or most anything else, any old time you want. Because in life, in
some ways, there are way less rules than you thought.
One time years ago when my kids were 2,3 and 12, someone was sick all winter long. You couldn't leave the house without another adult to be at home, be cause always there was a kid that needed to be all but so and cooped up to stay home, to get better. Thought I would go mad.
So we missed the birthday party for my youngest, in November. We then kept putting it off, certain we'd have a reprieve soon enough. But it was not to be, til May, when my middle kid's birthday is.
So we quick had the youngest's celebration , and pushed the middle kid forward a bit to give the relatives a breather. But they understood.
Then I thought "Wow. You can actually celebrate anything any time you want."
Course, my kids caught on- started lobbying to 'permanently ' change their birthday date ( in hopes of having two in one year, two sets of celebrations and gifts... get it?)
So I had to say "Sure, why not. But you need to pass by your real birthday and then get to your NEW birthday in order to change."
That held them off.
They thought for awhile .
They saw that the BIG PLAN was a no go.
Yet, with this realization in mind, I decided to give my husband a BIG surprise birthday party.
My best friend was around to help , and my husband thought it was just a gathering, til
my friend blew the beans , and Kevin looked quick at me and laughed and my friend looked horrified and I thought it was so funny, and pretty good that with so many kids running around , we'd pulled it off that much .
Plus, his birthday was in January, and this was the far end of March. Was a pretty good big surprise.
