.
Here is Toad's camouflaged
neighborhood, by the front door.
They live here all Spring and Summer, safe
from the big beautiful Garter Snake,
whose summer home is the shed, where the
mouse/chipmunk lane passes right by.
Toad stays in the flowerpot until
nightfall, when they go wander around .
Come morning, they're nestled back into
the damp cool earth beneath the blossoms. Impervious to our comings and goings.
Toad recently met a mate. They were gone for almost a week.
But then, at night, I'd realize I had to look carefully when leaving the front door to pee the pup, as Toad would be on the front stoop, perusing the neighborhood, before wandering off to have some inseculous dinner.
