Sometimes, our mind doesn’t know how we can handle this day. It takes a long time to discern when this is ‘mind’, brain , versus our whole self. To even conceive of entire capacity to be present and learn to be with what is our day, our life, right now.
Our mind is just one facet of our awareness, of our resources for living our life, responding to circumstances, making sense of experience, discovering and slowly finding meaning.
Relying on thoughts to problem solve, make sense, or deal emotionally with our circumstances, is like using only our pinkie finger, instead of our whole body.
It is very limited in scope and ability.
But we forget.
And some of us, here, are the progeny of a long line of an interesting, yet very limited , lineage of what was called Rational Thought.
Which ridiculed the power of myth, dream, faith of unorganized religion, and the energetic entirety of our consciousness.
Our connectivity with all that is.
The tradition of Rational Thought pushed us to eschew that which we cannot see or hear or touch or smell or taste or analyze or debate.
The problem is, so much of existence lies beyond these senses, and far past analytical thought, debate, competition.
So much of our consciousness has been profoundly grasped by other old cultures, each in their own inimitable way.
People and other living beings, from the beginning of time , have understood the place of ritual, of celebration, of coming together with your species, with other species, with other living beings, with all that is.
Not as a consumer. Not as a dominating using ruler.
But as connection. As a liberating reciprocal way of being.
It is in this way that we become aware of our whole selves. It is in this way that we bring our whole selves to our current situation. To our problems, to our distress.
It is in this way that we bring our whole self, as we study and learn our ways of being, to being present with the times in our life, today.
That we learn to slowly be present with, and gradually digest down, our yesterdays. To glean from them. To settle them. To find them peace.
We learn that the future, our future, is not to be speculated about. Especially when we are facing difficulty, speculation only destabilizes us. Because it has no truth, but simply stirs the pot of fear and anxiety and unfounded possibility.
It is to be pragmatically approached, to study and problem solve and create goals . And then left alone, while we fully reside in this present moment.
These are the ways of living and life and love and peace and solidity.
These are the ways of being, that are stable and balanced, and support us well.
These are the ways each of us learns , slowly, to grow and become close with our Deep
Wise Self.
