I've discovered that Jon Kabat Zinn is always
there, on the internet, to hold your hand. To sit with you while you learn to
be in the present moment.
He is fine with hanging with you from your dinner ,to
settling your house for the night, to climbing into bed, as he quietly talks
about life and mindfulness and challenges, or leads you on a guided meditation.
He often talks about 'featuring' something. It's kind of like if your entire
life was a pie, cut up into sections, and you were feeling barreled over by
all the labels and sections and then Zinn comes down the road, and says,
"Hey, how about you just feature your breath?"
And the whole deal
falls away, and you are suddenly riding this slow quiet simple stable wave of
your inbreath...and then your outbreath. In, and out. Just watching it, as you
live and breathe.
Everything falls away but this, and this you can do no
problem.
And while you do this easy peasy thing? Why, everything you've been
flailing with just gets nicely calmed down, comforted, and tucked in.
He's a
pretty cool guy, showing up like that. Leading anyone at all to rest in their
own breathing, in the present moment.
