When the circumstances in our life are tough tough, when we are learning how on earth to adapt to them. To remain present. To still fully be present with the tough stuff, so that we can digest it well, so that we can manage well enough, there is a value to our gratitude for all the ways things could be more difficult.
There is a profound value to taking the time to become aware of all the ways in which more difficult things are not present, on this day. In these circumstances.
Ways that we could be hungry, or could be too hot or too cold.
Ways that we could be isolated without anyone to exchange support with.
Ways in which we could be perilously uncertain about our safety or our financial stability. So much more.
And yet, what can be confusing is that after we review these and are so grateful every single day, still, this does not lessen the difficulty of the present circumstances.
This awareness does not lessen our pain or our grief or our profound sadness or our fear or anything else.
Because those emotions are within us, and being present is the way to settle them.
Be with them consciously, without thinking, without reviewing the past or the future, but simply residing in the present moment.
As we live and breathe right here right now. That is the source of our solace, that is the source of our sense of safety and being OK, while circumstances are tough.
Here we all are, on this beautiful day we are given.
