I was hanging out with a dear friend yesterday, who was talking
about life and people she observed, and her own experiences, and got to talking
about how there actually is no glass half empty, or glass half full.
There isn't pessimistic glass or optimistic glass.
There isn't sad-because-it's-not-full-glass. And there sure as heck isn't happy-because-it's-glass-half-full-glass.
It's only a glass. It's got some stuff in it. Every single other vantage point is interpretation, an optional projection, own private make believe.
We might feel happy there's stuff to drink in that glass. And we might be pissed off and angry or resentful or come to all sorts of made up conclusions based on how we feel about that glass and what's in it.
But the fact remains that the glass is just a glass. It has some stuff in it. We have feelings and thoughts and maybe even broad reaching conclusions about that glass.
In life, we humans like to make up stuff about the glass. We like to plaster our ideas and thoughts all over it. We like the argue about it and fight to be 'right'. We are all over weird and misdirected.
But much like the choice between pain and suffering, the experience remains a choice that we make.
The glass is simply a glass. Like our home or partner or transportation or the neighbor next door or the weather yesterday or losing our job or finding a $20, it is simply what it is.
