There is one deer that frequents our meadow, and a little bit, our garden. Oh, she is discriminating, though I know some day she might throw caution to the wind. Still, I see her unabashedly grazing out in the field with others, who flee with their good common sense, while she remains. This morning I saw her swing down the driveway, past the tenant's cottage with their two sleeping dogs, and out back. So out I went, in nightgown, bare feet relishing the damp grasses. She had nibbled off the top of one pepper plant, was pausing, and stood there, curious.
