10.3.16 Ground gazing

Sorcha and I lay in bed, after a too long day,
and gazed out the ground level window
at the yard nearby.
At the chipmunks racing about.
At the sheen of moving light upon the screen.
At the deepening dusk
and the racing-by pink puffball clouds.

10.3.16 Sometimes, it happens

We get to know situations. Mountains. People. Neighborhoods. Farmer's fields.

We get to know them in all seasons, all circumstances.
And if we are willing to do this, that relationship, that knowing,
 informs our lives.

It deepens our understanding of all things. Of ourself.

10.3.16 That which seems nuts

I remember each time I climbed Mount Washington, there would be that craziness.
That disbelief, that you could possibly get from where you are right now at the bottom,
all the way up to the summit. It was just unbelievable.
And then it happened, over and over again.
Which is what teaches us that many things ,which seem absolutely impossible,
 in fact are possible.

10.3.16 Only the beginning

I've always been drawn to the repetition of things.
Ways of illuminating the passage of time.
The variations of a face, a relationship, a neighborhood..different times of day.
Different weather, and seasons.
I remember coming across Wanda Gag's beautiful illustrations of the same place,
in all four seasons. Somehow I found it so soothing, making order, reminding us of the cycles.
Now with a quieter life, with child-raising pretty much done,
I find great succor in the cycles.
I find myself struck by the intricate changes in one place-
in a forest,
or by a field.
Same place, different circumstance.
I begin to get to know the terrain.

10.3.16 What a beautiful billowy day

Out back, at the OK Corral here, the vast Conservation Field watches
as big sky country glances on by.

10.3.16 Gleaming beauty black

Corvid. 2 1/2 years old. Born here.
Four siblings. Close relations.
Starting to hang with other young corvids.
Territorial about our compost.
Beautiful and big now, vocal and opinionated,
gleaming beauty black.
