9.29.14 There's The Good and The Bad And Then The Sweet

You come up on the morning and your eyes
squint and deceive ; you’ve had
good sleep, bad sleep, wrung to you knees
as you rumble down those stairs

You catch sight of him, ahead and you
close your eyes for a stretch
readying for the day, the emptiness

There’s the good and the bad and then the sweet
His hands running toward you, cross the sheet

And the days trail past, like they never did before
and you know more than you did
yet, some days, you just drift

And you wonder how this will play out
the paying and the working; you sitting out

As Fall makes this sudden turn on Swichback Lane
and the leaves turn bright then fall, all the same
It's really all anyone ever could need

Just the feel of his hand, the wind blown by
and you, turning quick, coming to
finding your feet scruffling in the dirt as you
head on down the road
