1.11.14 Through The Frigid January Skies

Photo: Some days ,no matter if you have loads to do, just all packed in, or your job is simply to live quietly, there are these moments that arrive on the scene, and steal your heart away.
Where something comes together within you and without you
and it happens while you're walking down the street or standing in line
or catching sight of the baby surprised by a sudden gust
or see a cow happily romping over to their friends
or you are shifting in your wheelchair to try to get more comfortable
or stamping your cold feet while you deliver the last newspapers
or trying to get the dinner made and the groceries put away and the little ones happy and the big ones doing their homework as you daydream about a Greek Island
or smile at the umpteenth person and take their toll as their acceleration fills your frozen cubicle with exhaust
or the pain that is your constant companion is a little quiet today
or you make it to your yoga class
or notice how less stiff you wake without the night-time icecream
or begin pushing your maple buds out of your stark slumbering branches even though it's 10• because that's just how it works and you remember in your tree-sleep the pleasure of spring
Or wake a bit from your torpid state deep underground, have a few bites of acorn, go pee, and curl up to sleep again
or you secretly dance about in the work bathroom drying your hands while no one is about
or you remember the feel of your hand in a loved one's hand who is no longer here with us
or you wake a bit to notice the suckling of your infant bears who have birthed themselves and found teats before you fall into hibernation again
or the earth in your part of the neighborhood comes together with this succulent sunset that knocks your socks off so bad you wonder why the whole county hasn't become stock still for watching
or you look up to notice the long line of adolescent crows playfully dancing together in the updrafts as they make their way home through the frigid January skies toward their roost.
