Down
by the farmers fields it was
cold and spattering rain, as we arrived mid morning to come and run. He stood in the
back of the car, shivering and whining with excitement while I attached his lead, grabbed
a poop bag, and popped a ball into the throwing thing .
I
pulled on a hat, zipped up, and stood back to give him the command to fly free.
And so, out he leapt.
Halfway down the road, the rain picked up , from the spatter to more of a downpour.
I'd been remembering photos my daughter had shown me yesterday , of enormous Philodendrons high in the trees in Jamaica, a few weeks back. So like the age old Philo they've grown up with , now settled into my study upstairs.
I was thinking of the FaceTime with her and her boyfriend, as the ocean waves crashed in the background and the wind blew through their hair , past their shining faces.
Today I'd been thinking how much I love the cold and the dark and the rain. I'd been feeling a little adventurous out there ,slogging along in the falling rain and cold.

I'd been entertaining ideas of being
rough tough, as the rain filled my hat and streamed down my back and soaked my
thighs and dripped, COLD, from my nose.
As my running shoes increased in weight and splooshy slogginess.
Finally, it came to me that this sucked . That with a reasonable raincoat and boots it could be a go. But presently ? How ridiculous. How soaked. How freezing cold.
Still , as I leashed the pup and refused entreaties to throw more balls; as I beat that beeline back to the nice warn dry car, I was filled with the beauty of the dark shining Spring day.
