I was having a conversation today , and had that realization .
Not only was my kid possibly the only extrovert in their family . I had been making assumptions about them, without realizing it, based on my own introverted existence.
See, if you tend to be an introvert, you’ll wander away from your bower for some fun and games then retreat , and be quiet and alone and recoup .
If you're an extrovert, you have an actual need for a volume of interaction. It's not a choice .
It isn't like an introvert needing to learn better how to 'take care of themselves ' so they're not all needy. Because, surprise surprise , an extrovert actually needs this amount of interaction the way a plant needs water , or we need air to breathe .
Big time Herd Animals .
So weird, when you realize you've been projecting onto another, quietly imposing your values onto them.
Pfft. Just glad I woke up and realized.
I called my kid.
Offered the idea. Apologized for not understanding .
Mentioned some ideas of compensatory changes in the family .
And then, off they went , all able and gifted and making their way .
