I drag myself out of
the house, pop the pup in the car, and drive him down the road to Summit Road.
Parked, I let him leap out on leash, whining and delighted as all get out.
There, he pounces about in the dry grass, In hopes of detecting a scurrying mouse, oblivious to the fact that always as he does this, there are numerous tiny beautiful rodents rushing off here and there, undetected.
There is a soft wind, the night in the low 80s, and so warm and yet comfortable, that with the realization of summer drawing to a close, I find myself interpreting the finally humid night air as completely delicious, as opposed to oppressive.
Out on the hills of shorn corn, leading up to the mountain range, there are deer unobtrusively having their leisurely dinner.
The sky is a pale blue, with darker blue clouds that hardly move. The sunset, outrageous earlier when I was too tired to move, now a pale remnant.

It's
loveliness shines as darkness descends, and the night begins its call.
