Who really knows how they all came together that day. Maybe hearing the news from disparate parts of the vast wooded countryside. Maybe they checked their schedule, and realized it was today, and it was soon, the big get together. I'm not certain.
But there I was, on any old afternoon. Driving from home. Down through the canopied forest of the small mountain range . Out into the dark overcast day.
Looking far across the high fields of our town. Only to catch sight of them, and many... kicking up their heels, jostling and running, right on across the road, like they belonged here, their golden coats shining as the sun came out for just that moment in time.
